There are three cultures that collectively make Santa Fe special. Native American, Spanish and Mexican. Though Mexican food is trumped by New Mexican options, these are Santa Fe’s top spots for mole, enchiladas, and more authentic dishes from south of the border.
- Fiesta Oaxaca—In the heart of downtown and just off the Plaza, you’ll find an oasis of authentic Mexican food at Fiesta Oaxaca including several homemade moles.
- Fusion Tacos-Seven locations to choose from.
- Los Portrillos—When you need sabor de Mexico but you are in Santa Fe, head straight to Los Portrillos. You can order in Spanish, watch futbol on TV and revel in a taste of Mexico.
Paloma—This restaurant is only open at night but promises to take you on a journey to Mexico. Start with the mandatory Paloma cocktail, a mixture of fresh grapefruit juice and tequila. And then you can decide what’s next.
Sazon—Chef Fernando Olea cooks up his authentic yet sophisticated food from Mexico in this downtown restaurant that’s only open for dinner. If you’re into moles, this is the only place you need to visit to get your fill.
- Zacatlan—A tiny spot off Guadalupe, Zacatalan has been gaining popularity with its authentic Mexican food with a splash of southwestern influence. If you are into brunch, stop in here on the weekends. Otherwise, it’s dinner only.
